Ahhh Wee Wee!

August 4, 2015
-Paris! Oh la la! This city is so beautiful and the people are amazingly friendly. We left London around 5pm and arrived in the Love City around 7pm. We were hopeful for our apartment and luckily we found it with no problems and it is exactly how it looked in the pictures from AirBnB. It is tiny and quite tight but holds plenty of charm especially with the view. We have a little terrace and you can see the Eiffel Tower from it! Lovely view and 5 minute walking distance to Notre Dame. I give myself a  pat on the back for booking this place!

Since we got in late, we hadn't had any dinner, therefore, we were starving. We walked around Latin Quarter, which reminded me of NOLA, and we found a fondue restaurant. Cheese sounded delicious and since we are in Paris we had to dive in! It was superb and it went great with red wine.

Yummy fondue and vino!

It was interesting sitting there people watching, the Latin Quarter is a very small neighborhood filled with restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops. It is one of my favorite spots to visit. Awesome nightlife! Seems like Paris never sleeps.

Notre Dame

After dinner we decided to grab a bottle of wine and walk along the Seine River, it is insane how many people are just sitting around drinking, playing music, dancing and enjoying life. We sat there for awhile and the decided to call it a night.

Notre Dame

-We had a FULL day ahead of us. Our goal was to walk all around Paris and see all the main sights. We woke up and headed first to get some breakfast/lunch. There is a crepe place in Latin Quarter that Anne Kaar had shown me when I was visiting last, so I wanted to revisit it. They have awesome salty and sweet crepes at an excellent price--- 5 euros! Its a steal.

We then walked around Notre Dame and then to the Lourve. The buildings are amazing, unlike anything we have ever seen.

Lourve

Everything is so old but regal looking. We were going to visit the Mona Lisa, however it was HOT HOT out and the line was forever so we plan on seeing her later in the trip.

We then walked through the Jardin des Tuileries and enjoyed the garden and weather.

Afterwards we walked to the Eiffel Tower! Surprisingly the tower is enormous and beautiful and since there wasn't a long line we decided it was best we climb it today! So we stocked up on water and made the climb. 669 stairs!!!! It may not sound like a lot but after walking all day and it being steamy out, it definately took a lot of energy to get up there!

The 360 view is out of this world!

We then wanted to see Moulin Rouge and Sacre Coeur. We jumped on the Metro and finally got to relax after walking all day. The area of Moulin Rouge is a bit dicey with a lot of rated-R stores and shows. It was surprising how much they are able to show with children and the general public walking around.

We quickly walked through that neighborhood and headed towards Sacre Coeur. This cathedral and the surrounding area is so quaint and charming, something out of a fairy tale. We sat on the steps of Sacre Coeur for a bit and listened to live music and then wanted to head back to our teeny apartment to clean up.

We walked about 14 miles today, a shower had never felt soooo good! On the way home to the apartment we stopped by a fromagerie (cheese shop) and a meat shop to pick up dinner. We are going to have a picnic under the Eiffel Tower and watch it sparkle!!!

Wine, brie, salami, comte cheese, prosciutto, baguette, and jam!

We road bikes over to the Eiffel Tower (similar to a Divy bike in Chicago), it was a thrill but scary with these crazy Parisian drivers. Overall the scenery was breathtaking and seeing the Eiffel Tower all lit up and sparkling was magical. Tonight was one of my favorite dinners!

Scooters, Scooters EVERYWHERE!!

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh and what a drastic change it was from Siem Reap. There were so many people, cars and motorbikes. I really enjoyed and laid back feel of Siem Reap; now time for a busy city. We grabbed a taxi and headed to District 1. Our hostel was located right in the middle of the restaurant and bar district. Once we dropped our bags off at the hostel we walked down the main street and grabbed a coffee at a local egg coffe shop. After the Vietnam War there was a shortage of milk, so the Vietnamese started using egg in their coffee. It was delicious! It was a creamy, frothy texture and did not taste like egg. It came to be a favorite coffee place; even for Amber who is a tea-aholic! For dinner we went to a Pho soup place- it was savory and very filling. I am still going strong on my soup kick. When continued to explore District 1 and grabbed a few drinks before calling it a night. The next day we wandered around the local market; you could literally buy anything y...

First Stop of the Southeast Asia Tour- Singapore

I have always been interested in Southeast Asia, but never thought I would have the chance to go. I went to Europe on my own, but I felt this trip I needed some travel buddies. When I first met Gina in Hawaii she mentioned going to Thailand after the assignment. Well, that interest is becoming a reality. Gina, Amber and myself are doing a trip through Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Amber is a fellow travel nurse that also has a passion, for well, travel. Getting to Singapore was a daunting thought- 24 hours on a plane. But it actually was not that bad, All Nippon Airways was great! They had comfy seating, excellent entertainment, surprisely good food and very nice flight attendants. Burger patty, rice, carrots; salad; noodle soup; antipasto; spinach and chicken salad; vanilla ice cream I landed in Singapore around 11:30pm, so I decided to just grab a hotel and shower and get some rest. It was a very charming hotel, that was previously an Opera H...

Ciao from the city of canals and hidden streets!

August 7, 2015 Venice- It was an obstacle to get to you! From Paris we walked to the metro, took the metro to the bus, took the bus to the airport, took a plane to Venice airport, took a bus to the city centre and then walked to our accommodation.   When we arrived it was very very warm, 95 degrees! Such a change from chilly, damp Dublin. We had a bit of a journey finding our next AirBnB place; something I didn't know was the streets on Googlemaps don't really match what is truly here. So we wondered around for a while until we had to ask for help. We stopped at this very nice hotel and the staff there were amazing. They helped us call the owner of the apartment we were staying at and walked with us to ensure we got there safely. This local man working at the hotel did not have an idea where the apartment was, so it took awhile, but we found it! We probably would not have found it without his help. When we arrived at the apartment, it wasn't exactly what w...
