Tuk tuks and temples

Next stop--- Cambodia!!

We arrived to Siem Reap and were immediately greeted with a whole slew of tuk tuks. I heard that this was their form of transportation, but I did not realize it was pretty much their only form, along with motorbikes.

We met with a helpful gentleman at the airport who helped us get a taxi- well a taxi is actually just a 4-person tuk tuk. We packed our luggage in and set off!

One app that has been very helpful during our travels is Grab; this is Asia's form of Uber. So when hailing tuk tuks I was able to compare what they should be charging us.

One thing that I learned very early on was that Cambodia mainly took only cash and they loved American dollars. Everywhere we went they accepted US dollars.

After a bumpy tuk tuk ride we arrived to our Onederz hostel; it was lovely. There was a pool and full of fellow travelers.
Foot massage- 2$. Keep em coming!

We took full advantage of the pool when we arrived and met a really nice English girl; who was a psych nurse. We ended up walking around together and exploring the markets and city of Siem Reap.

THE Best Tom Yum soup!

The main attraction to Siem Reap is Angkor Wat- the largest and oldest Buddhist temple in the world. Gina, Amber, Jasmine and I decided to do a sunrise tour of all the temples in the area.
Angkor Wat was beautiful! There was so much detail still apparent, I cannot imagine what it looked like 800 years ago when it was built.

The monkeys were not shy and knew the sound of food wrappers

We wondered around the temples and ended our tour midday. It was perfect timing because it was time to go to our 4th country of the trip- Vietnam.

Rome, Naples, Pompeii OH MY!

My course has been completed and I decided I needed to get out of Barcelona for a bit, and on top of my list was Rome.  I decided to take a 3 night, 4-day trip by myself to discover the ancient city. After traveling to London and with everything that I would have done differently, I now know how to pack and travel lightly.  I know how the airport functions and that I do not need to be there 2 hours before, like O’Hare.  So everything went smoothly on my trip to Rome.  No glitches!  That was feat and I was so happy about it. So I arrived in Rome on Monday, September 3 @ 10am.  I made it to my hostel and everything went smoothly.  I decided I wanted to go see the Colosseum first since it was nice out and I would be mainly outside when I was touring it.  It was OUTSTANDING.  I cannot believe that I was walking around the inside of the Colosseum.  Only about 30% of the building remains, meaning that this was a HUGE buildi...

Lord grant me patience.

How long can you wait until you can’t wait any longer?   I am at that breaking point.   I have the feeling of dread pulling me one way in my current lifestyle and the feeling of excitement and anticipation pulling me the other way.   As July comes near nervousness is thrown in the mixture.   Soon even I will not be able to recognize my own life, things are under major reconstruction. The REAL beginning of my year in Barcelona

Saying good-bye to Anne in London was very difficult, we had had such an amazing weekend and I did not want to go back to Barcelona.  The flight went smoothly, I knew not to make the same mistake with trying to get on Ryanair with two bags; I just checked it right away.  I then took the Aerobus back to the city center and grabbed a cab to the new apartment.  The apartment was not exactly what I was imagining or predicted; it was quite a distance away from the city and it was a host situation. Maria was the host, meaning we lived with her and not that she was just the landlord.  At first I thought it was not at all the situation I wanted and that I wanted my own apartment to have freedom to do whatever.  Well I was proven wrong when I was in Barcelona for four nights by myself; Maria turned out to be a great friend and kept me sane.  It was a blessing to have someone around that could help me get around the city and to talk to.  Maria does not kno...
